  • Years later the legendary businessman appreciated Big B's decision in front of big industrialists.

Amitabh Bachchan reaches another milestone today as he turns 80 years of age. He is one of the very few actors in the world who continues to be as busy with different projects as the younger actors, thereby inspiring hundreds of his co-stars. Undoubtedly, Big B is one of the richest actors in the country today next only to Shah Rukh Khan; but there was a time when he was facing a severe financial crisis and was drowned in debt up to his neck.

He made some very big mistakes through his production company ABCL Corporation and the decision affected him to such an extent that almost everyday lenders started calling him and coming to his home for recovery. At that time Amitabh had a good bonding with Anil Ambani, the second son of India’s richest man at that time, Dhirubhai Ambani.

Dhirubhai was aware of Amitabh’s economic distress and asked his son to give Amitabh a huge amount of money. But the Bollywood superstar politely refused. Sharing the incident during the 40th Annual Event of Reliance Industries, the legendary actor said that the amount Dhirubhai was offering to him could have ended his financial woes in a jiffy but he simply refused to take the help.

The star of the millennium accepted the offer to host Kaun Banega Crorepati on television and became the first big superstar to work for television. He even went to his old colleague and director Yash Chopra and asked him to give him some work and returned to Bollywood with Mohabbatein. Over the years, he not only earned back the lost amount but also paid every penny of debt and regained his financial stability.

During one of the functions to which all the big businessmen and celebrities were invited, Amitabh was also present as the guest of Anil Ambani. While the Abhimaan actor sat quietly having a chitchat with Anil, Dhirubhai called him in front of the guests and said, “This boy had fallen down but got back on his own. I respect him for that.”

Years later during the annual event, Amitabh Bachchan said that those words are still more valuable to him than the amount of wealth he was offered by Dhirubhai Ambani.
