Ace director Mani Ratnam’s dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ (PS I) has set several new records in the Tamil cine industry and is also running fairly in the Hindi belt. Now, the makers are all set for the release of the sequel to the magnum opus, PS 2.
The epic period action drama film, PS I, throws a glance at the Chola Dynasty that ruled South India during the 10th century. The flick received massive appreciation. The huge ensemble cast including Tamil actor Chiyaan Vikram, Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, and Trisha Krishnan among others, also boasts a decent collection in overseas. After the first of the two cinematic parts, fans are now eager to watch the sequel.
Reigniting the excitement, the makers have announced the updates related to the sequel. After rewriting the record books of the Tamil cine industry, the makers are once again prepping to register another record. Lyca Productions, one of the production banners of the magnum opuses have updated recently that the sequel will be expectedly released by 2023 summer. Though the release date has not been finalised yet, the same will probably be announced within a few weeks.
As the shooting for PS 2 is complete, the team will soon begin the post productions for the sequel so that they get ready for theatrical release by next year summer. As claimed by Taran, the producers are now evaluating the post-production schedule of PS 2.
On the other hand, the makers are hopeful that the satellite and digital circulation will increase the craze for PS I which will also fuel up the hype for PS 2 and create solid ground for the sequel.
Notably, PS I had a worldwide box office collection of Rs 80 crore on day one. While the second-day collection came down to Rs 70 crore, the third day witnessed a massive growth with records of Rs 80 crore collections.
It is pertinent to mention here that magnum opuses like Baahubali: The Conclusion as well as KGF: Chapter 2 went to the shooting floors after the monstrous success of their respective first parts. Even Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Pushpa: The Rule, the sequel to Pushpa: The Rise will soon go to the floors. Even Bollywood movie makers followed the same path for making Brahmastra. Such a strategy certainly would have amplified the overall budget.
Indeed, Ratnam took the valuable decision of completing the shooting of both parts of Ponniyin Selvan together. Moreover, the decision helped the makers to keep a less gap between the two parts and the audience won’t have to wait for a long time to explore more about the pending story.
