Vijay Deverakonda

Vijay Deverakonda has emerged as one of the most charismatic and beloved actors in Indian cinema today. From his breakout role in Pelli Choopulu to the cult classic Arjun Reddy, the Telugu heartthrob has consistently delivered powerful performances that resonate with audiences across regions. Off-screen, his relationship with Rashmika Mandanna continues to keep fans intrigued, while on-screen, his bold choices have solidified his position as a pan-India star.

At the recently held World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, Deverakonda offered insights beyond just cinema, he addressed the growing conversation around the North vs South film divide, calling it “unproductive” and a distraction from the larger potential of Indian cinema.

‘Unite, Don’t Divide’: Deverakonda’s Call to the Industry

Speaking during a panel moderated by filmmaker Karan Johar, the Liger star expressed his disapproval of the regional divide debate in Indian cinema. “It was recent that India found South cinema and started celebrating it on a national level,” he said. “So I think it’s good TRP, good conversation, good headline, something stimulating to talk about. But it’s not the most productive thing for cinema.”

Instead, Deverakonda advocated for collaboration over competition, suggesting that Indian cinema should look beyond regional lines and embrace unity.

Shah Rukh Khan Meets Allu Arjun? A Dream Duo

Vijay went on to make an exciting suggestion, a collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Allu Arjun. Citing the massive box office performances of their recent films, Shah Rukh’s blockbuster grossing around ₹800–1000 crore, and Allu Arjun’s film touching ₹1000 crore, he said, “Now imagine they collaborate! When you bring a star from the South and a star from the North, when you bring two stars from India, you unite the country.”

He added that Hollywood has long embraced cross-industry collaboration, and it’s high time Indian cinema adopted a similar mindset. “If we have to take on the giants of the world, we need to unite. We need to collaborate,” Deverakonda said with conviction, drawing applause from the audience.
