A two-day national mourning is to be observed in the memory of 'Nightingale of India' Lata Mangeshkar. The National flag will fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect, informed government sources.

Lata Mangeshkar passed away today at the age of 92. The singing legend was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 in early January this year. 

"She is no more. She died in the morning," Usha Mangeshkar, the singer's younger sister, told PTI on Sunday.

As soon as the news spread, many celebrities took to their social handles and paid tributes to the singer.  

Describing Lata Mangeshkar as "the voice of million centuries", megastar Amitabh Bachchan paid homage to the singing legend who passed away on Sunday.

Bachchan took to his personal blog to bid adieu to the melody queen.

"She has left us .. The voice of a million centuries has left us .. her voice resounds now in the Heavens !" he wrote.

Ace Music composer AR Rahman expressed his deepest condolences and wrote, "Love, respect and prayers"

Akshay Kumar wrote, “Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hain, Gar Yaad Rahe…and how can one forget such a voice! Deeply saddened by the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar ji, my sincere condolences and prayers. Om Shanti.” 

Former Indian Captain Virat Kohli wrote, "Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Lata ji. Her melodious songs touched millions of people around the world. Thank you for all the music and the memories. My deepest condolences to the family & the loved ones. Folded hands."

South Superstar Chiranjeevi also expressed his condolence. "Nightingale of India, one of the greatest Legends #Lata Didi is no more.HeartbrokenBroken heart The vacuum due to this colossal loss can never be filled. She lived an extraordinary life.Her Music lives on & will continue to cast a spell until Music is there! Rest in Peace #LataMangeshkar,"
