'The Sabarmati Report' made tax-free in Odisha
The Odisha govt on Thursday announced that Bollywood movie 'The Sabarmati Report' will be entertainment tax-free.
After states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, BJP-led Odisha government made the film tax-free.
On Thursday, CM Majhi took to his X, and wrote, “People's government has decided to make the film 'Sabarmati Report' based on a true incident tax free in Odisha. The film shows how Karsevak was burnt alive in the Godhra fire incident to fulfill their vested interests and create unrest. This film will bring to the people such a hair-raising, heart-wrenching truth of the past and make the general public more aware. #TheSabarmatiReport”.

Produced by Ektaa Kapoor and directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film’s plot is around the incident of burning of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station (Gujarat) on February 27, 2002. At least 59 Hindu devotees who were returning from Ayodhya were charred to death in the incident, sparking riots in Gujarat. Back then, now Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Ektaa Kapoor Expresses Gratitude to Odisha CM
Reacting to the same, Ektaa replied, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Ji and Government of Odisha for making #TheSabarmatiReport tax-free in the state. This support will help bring the truth of a significant chapter in our history to more people”.
In the film, the actor Vikrant Massey plays the role of a Hindi journalist, who stands up to the system because he wants the truth to be covered in the reportage. Apart from Vikrant, the film features Ridhi Digra and Raashil Khanna in the lead roles.
Since its release on November 15, 'The Sabarmati Report' has collected a decent earning at the box office.
