Web series have now become the core entertainment for Generation Z. With the OTT platforms offering a wide range of content, audience now has ample choice to keep themselves entertained during the evening hours and especially during the weekends. But some of the web series have become cult classics within a couple of years and fans are eagerly waiting for their sequels to stream.

The characters like Guddu Bhaiyya from Mirzapur or Srikant Tiwari from The Family Man have reached the same level of popularity that Shah Rukh Khan’s Rahul or Om Puri’s Mogambo enjoyed once. Recently, IMDb ranked the top 50 web series to date and fans immediately started sharing their top 5 all-time favourite web series.

The IMDb lists Sacred Games at the top followed by Mirzapur, Scam 1992, The Family Man, and Aspirants. Fans have also come out with their options but importantly series like Mirzapur, Scam 1992, or The Family Man are part of almost every list.

Other series that have found a place in the top 5 web series list of different social media users include Special Ops, Panchayat, Aashram, Gullak, Asur, Kota Factory, Patal Lok, Rocket Boys, and Little Things.

Most of these hit web series franchises like Panchayat, Asur, Aashram, Mirzapur, and The Family Man have come out with two or more seasons and each season has received lots of love.

While Asur 2 was released after a long gap, it still is attracting good response due to its dark mystery. The third season of Mirzapur and The Family Man is highly awaited and both Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Bajpayee who lead these franchises respectively have elevated their stardom with digital platforms.

Sacred Games starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui was a big hit but its second season was not received well. Later on, there was a controversy regarding the third season and Netflix decided to shut down the franchise which was unfortunate as Sacred Games continues to be the best web series on Indian OTT platforms to date.
