Amid loud chants of 'Mihir Bhai Amar Rahe', the mortal remains of veteran actor Mihir Das were consigned to flames with full state honours at Satichoura crematorium in Cuttack on Wednesday morning.

Das breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack yesterday afternoon.

As announced by the State Government, a guard of honour was accorded to the late actor before his elder son Amlan Das lit the funeral pyre.

Apart from family members and friends, a large number of people, including political leaders, Ollywood artists, fans and others gathered at the crematorium and bid a tearful adieu to the departed actor.

His body was kept at his residence at Sector-8 in the millennium city for the public to pay their last respect to the departed soul.

Later, his mortal remains were bought to the crematorium in a procession in a flower-bedecked hearse van by his followers, friends and family members. A sea of crowd gathered on both sides of the road to pay their tribute to the legendary actor.

Das (63), who is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, was suffering from kidney ailments for the past few years. Around a month ago he was admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack where he was on ventilator support and undergoing dialysis. However, he died yesterday afternoon.
