Just as Indians were watching this important final between India and South Africa on their television or the big squares on giant screens, Indian fans in New York were hooting on streets supporting the Indian cricketers with full enthusiasm. Towards the end of the match, as Jasprit Bumrah gave a major breakthrough by taking a wicket, fans in the US got excited and started chanting, “Ganapati Bappa Moraya.”

Hundreds of fans joined this celebration on the streets in NYC as they waited till the last ball for India to clinch the trophy.

Moment of life for Rahul, Rohit and Virat

It was an emotional moment for every member of the Indian team. For Coach Rahul Dravid who left the captaincy in 2007 because India lost the match in the World Cup, it was a dream come true to lift the trophy that eluded him more than 15 years ago.

Virat Kohli was overjoyed as he lifted the trophy and walked around the ground wrapped in Indian tricolour posing and interacting with the media. The moment was overwhelming for him as could be seen from his reactions while he was talking with his family on video call. The legendary cricketer who has ruled Indian cricket announced retirement from T20 cricket yesterday.

Although it was a bit saddening for his fans it was heartening as well that the legend is taking retirement from this format after winning the World Cup. For Rohit Sharma , it was a must-win situation after India lost the World Cup last year in November. The way he reacted after the last ball was hit exemplified how important this win was for him as a captain. He too announced his retirement from T20 format.

Indians were awake late till midnight watching India lift the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Celebrations started as India emerged winners with streets in many metro cities flooded with people shouting slogans and flaring the Indian tricolour.
