Stree 2
'Stree 2' has cemented its place as the top Bollywood film of 2024, surpassing 'Fighter's lifetime collection of Rs 212.75 crore nett.
The horror-comedy starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao achieved this milestone by grossing over Rs 200 crore in just five days, including a stellar Rs 37 crore on its first Monday, according to Sacnilk.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, 'Stree 2' set a record as the fastest Hindi film to reach the Rs 200 crore nett mark domestically this year. With a total collection of Rs 228.45 crore in its first five days, it now eyes the coveted Rs 300 crore mark by the end of its second weekend, challenging even 'Kalki 2898 AD's reign.
Notably, 'Stree 2' surpassed previous records held by films like 'Chhichhore' (Rs 153 crore nett), 'Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar' (Rs 147 crore nett), and 'Saaho' (Rs 145 crore nett), marking the highest-grossing film in both Shraddha and Rajkummar's careers within just five days.
Benefitting from Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan holidays, the film raked in Rs 51.8 crore and Rs 37.00 crore respectively on these occasions, with strong box office performances in key cities like Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.
'Stree 2', a sequel to the 2018 hit 'Stree', reunited the original cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, while introducing new faces in cameo roles such as Varun Dhawan as Bhediya and Akshay Kumar in a potential antagonist role. Tamannaah Bhatia also made an appearance as Pankaj Tripathi's love interest.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Karan Johar took to social media on Tuesday to laud 'Stree 2's blockbuster success, describing it as a triumph not just for the makers but for Hindi cinema itself. He praised the film's storytelling, content, and deep connection with audiences, highlighting it as a validation of solid filmmaking amidst evolving audience preferences post-pandemic.
