SSMB29: Rajamouli wraps a Kenya schedule with Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra; two-part budget revealed?
When it comes to cinematic spectacles, SS Rajamouli has always raised the bar. After Baahubali and RRR, the eminent filmmaker is now crafting his most ambitious project yet- SSMB29 (working title), starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film recently wrapped a high-octane schedule in Kenya, stirring up international buzz.
The team has shot extensively across breathtaking African terrains, including the Masai Mara, Samburu, Lake Naivasha, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Amboseli. The shooting gained attention even from the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, who praised the project on social media.
Reports about the film’s budget have taken the internet by storm. Kenyan news outlets such as The Star claim that the production is pegged at $135 million (Rs 1188 crore), potentially making it one of Asia’s most expensive films ever. Earlier reports from The Citizen suggested a slightly lower figure of $116 million (Rs 1022 crore). While official confirmation is awaited, it’s clear Rajamouli is aiming for global dominance with 'Globetrotter'.
Adding to the frenzy, The Star reported that SSMB29 may unfold as a two-part cinematic epic, ensuring the story reaches its grand scale. While earlier media reports suggested that SSMB29 would be a standalone film, the fresh reports of 'two-parter' has raised confusion among moviegoers. Furthermore, the film is slated for release across 120 countries, signaling Rajamouli’s intent to position Indian cinema firmly on the world stage.
For Mahesh Babu, SSMB29- The GlobeTrotter, marks his first collaboration with Rajamouli, expected to catapult him onto a global platform. PeeCee's casting further widens the film’s international appeal, while Prithviraj Sukumaran adds depth with his versatility.
