Sonam Kapoor: A victim of constant trolling! From calling herself 'icon' to enjoying 'freedom' of doing chores
Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, daughter of superstar Anil Kapoor, has been a victim of constant trolling. Here we bring some instances when Sonam Kapoor got brutally trolled by netizens for her statements.
After her debut, while speaking at the press conference for the 54th Filmfare Awards 2008, Sonam stunned many with her statement.
She said, "I did my first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and my second film 'Delhi-6' is with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. These are big names and I am on top of the world. I am not at all an underdog. I am Anil Kapoor's daughter. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth."
A couple of years back, Sonam graced the popular chat show Koffee With Karan with her father Anil Kapoor. During the show, she mentioned that she feels proud for being considered as an icon already in her 20s whereas other actresses get such a landmark label in their 40s or 50s.
“I want to go down till posterity, you know what I mean? And being considered an icon in my ‘20s, when people like are in their ‘40s or after they die are considered icons. I think it's amazing,” said Sonam.
Well, this statement left her father stunned and the host broke into laughter. And, netizens trilled her brutally on social media.
In 2021, Sonam appeared on the cover of Vogue India for the July month’s issue. While she became the Internet’s hot topic for her photoshoot for the magazine, netizens trolled her brutally after she spoke about her experience in London.
Speaking to Vogue, she said, "London has made me realise that I’m very Indian. I now realise what being an immigrant actually means. Migrating to a new place is hard. I didn’t understand why Indians abroad were more Indian than Indians in India, and I realised it’s because we hold on to our roots so hard.”
She also talked about missing Bombay (Mumbai), the food, her family, friends and the movie industry. Though she loved living in London, she admitted that her heart remains in India.
Further, describing her daily routine, she said, "I like the freedom here. I make my own food, clean my own space, shop for my own groceries.”
Well, this statement didn't go down well with netizens. They brutally trolled her. Taking a dig at her, many stated that house help/maids and cooks forcibly enter houses in India and don't let the homeowners do the work.
After the video clip went viral on social media, netizens mocked Sonam for such a statement.
Well, After marrying businessman Anand Ahuja in 2018, Sonam took a step back from films. Sonam and Anand welcomed their son Vayu Kapoor Ahuja in 2022. On the work front, she made her comeback with Blind (2023).
