Skyforce

Skyforce with Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan , and Veer Pahariya in the lead released last week. Inspired by true life events of Indian airstrike on Pakistani airbase the movie is produced by Maddock Films which was one of the most successful production houses last year. All through the promotions the emphasis was more on debutant Veer Pahariya whereas it seemed Akshay Kumar was just attending it for the sake of following a protocol.

Even Sara Ali Khan who is the romantic lead opposite Veer was not seen at the promotional events. Instead, a lot of social media pages were filled up with so many things about Veer Pahariya from how he has been the best in both dancing and action. The PR machinery went overboard comparing Veer’s performance in Skyforce with Tom Cruise in Maverick.

What’s more, the ticket prices of the movie have also been slashed a lot making the movie affordable so that almost everyone is encouraged to watch it in the theaters. Veer Pahariya even went into the theaters to experience how the audience was reacting to him on the big screen. All such things were used to a great extent to promote the movie as a part of the PR tactics.

Skyforce hence has been in the news for so many different reasons but all through this exposure there is hardly a discussion on Akshay Kumar, his role in the movie, or his acting. Despite the fact that a big superstar like Akshay is in the lead role in Skyforce, the entire focus has been shifted to Veer Pahariya, and all for the wrong reasons because Veer is not the Bollywood superstar people are looking for.

He is young and may even get better with movies, but the popular opinion is that he simply is not cut for the silver screen. So just because you can buy tickets, slash ticket prices, and are wealthy enough to run an aggressive PR campaign you do not become a big movie star. Akshay on the other hand despite facing a lull in his career, is a self-made superstar who has a legacy that has inspired sequels for new generations.
