Sitaare Zameen Par
Aamir Khan, often hailed as Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’, makes a compelling comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par, a film that promises to tug at the heartstrings while challenging deep-rooted social prejudices. Known for his transformative roles and thought-provoking cinema, Khan is once again set to break boundaries this time, as a frustrated and controversial basketball coach navigating a journey of redemption.
The much-anticipated trailer of Sitaare Zameen Par was unveiled on Tuesday and has already struck a chord with audiences. The three-minute preview introduces Khan’s character, Gulshan, a former basketball coach who has suffered a dramatic fall from grace. Once celebrated, he is now a hot-headed, politically incorrect man, battling personal demons and estranged from society. After a drunken altercation with the police, he is sentenced by the court to mentor a group of children on the autism spectrum — a task he accepts reluctantly.
Genelia D’Souza plays Khan’s love interest, adding emotional depth to the narrative. The trailer hints at a classic tale of transformation — not just of the team, but also of their troubled mentor. Aamir’s production house described the film as, “1 Tingu Basketball Coach, 10 Toofani SITAARE aur unki journey.”
Unlike his gentle, empathetic role in Taare Zameen Par, Aamir’s Gulshan is abrasive, rude, and emotionally volatile. Speaking about the role, Khan said, “He’s very rude, politically incorrect… He fights with his wife and mother. He has a lot of internal issues.”
The film not only showcases the redemptive arc of an imperfect man but also highlights the broader theme of inclusion, questioning what it truly means to be ‘normal’.
Sitaare Zameen Par marks Aamir Khan’s return to the silver screen after the lukewarm reception of Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022. Following that setback, Khan had taken a break from acting but with this bold and unconventional script, he is clearly back with purpose.
The film, directed by RS Prasanna, is set to hit theatres on 20 June 2025 and is already creating waves for its sensitive theme and powerful performances. With early praise, including actor Riteish Deshmukh calling it an “extraordinary trailer”, fans eagerly await this heartfelt journey of redemption, resilience, and human connection.
