Sholay: Amid Salman Khan's 'remake' idea, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar's cult classic to have special theatrical screening
Ramesh Sippy's action-adventure movie Sholay recently clocked 49 years of its release on August 15. Sholay, starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri (Bachchan) in pivotal roles, is still considered the biggest hit film in Indian cinema. Written by the iconic writer-duo Salim-Javed, remains a true Indian cinematic treasure. Now, it seems, the history will be created again.
The revolutionary screenwriters of Indian cinema, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar penned down several movies of which 20 became blockbusters, including Sholay. To celebrate the legacy of Salim-Javed, Zoya Akhtar's Tiger Baby Films is going to organize a special screening of Sholay. The screening will be held in Mumbai on August 31.
On August 28, Tiger Baby Films on its official Instagram handle dropped an official invitation for the screening of Sholay. The caption for the post read, "Celebrate the magic of Salim-Javed 50 years later. One-time screening of Sholay in cinemas this Saturday on 31st August! Bookings open tomorrow." (sic)
The montage begins with the movie's poster with the legendary actors described as 'The greatest Star-cast ever assembled!' for the 'The greatest story ever told.'
The next slide reads, "Celebrate the legacy of Angry Young Men Salim Javed." (sic)
As per reports, the cult classic flick will be screened in the 50-year-old vintage cinemascope print at Regal Cinema, Mumbai, on August 31 at 5: 30 pm.
Indeed, it would be a 'reliving the history' moment for fans. The excitement among fans is quite obvious from the flooding comments in the comments section. Several users also urged to screen Sholay in other parts of the country as well.
Recently on August 13, the documentary series 'Angry Young Men' was released in the presence of the iconic writer duo. Later, Salim Khan's son and superstar Salman Khan expressed his wish to remake Sholay and Deewar, during an interview with Farah Khan on Prime Video's YouTube channel. Sallu mentioned that he would like to take on a triple role in the Sholay remake.
When Farah quizzed the Ek Tha Tiger actor if he would like to take on Jai or Veeru's role, Zoya Akhtar, Namrata Rao and Javed Akhtar unanimously said, "He is Veeru."
However, Salman said, "Also Jai. I can play both. Gabbar also."
Well, though it is not practically possible for Salman to play the triple role of both the protagonist and the antagonist, he would be apt to play Veeru's role in the remake.
The docuseries 'Angry Young Men' was released on August 20 and is streaming on Prime Video.
