Bollywood's Badshah aka Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri are one of the most admired celebrity couples in the BTown. The picture-perfect family of the King Khan has come across several ups and downs throughout the journey and Khan himself has landed in several controversies. However, Shah's stardom remains intact which is obvious from the mounting anticipation and roars among fans for his upcoming flick Pathan, which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in prominent characters.

SRK, also fondly called the 'King of Romance' stepped into the tinsel town with high hopes following his small screen debut. Though Khan made his silver screen debut as the second lead and later as an antagonist, he left an everlasting impression with his flawless performance and became noticeable with his negative characters. But soon, he switched on the boats and signed multi-starrer movies. And it was Yash Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that helped SRK create his identity. He has never looked back since then.

However, Khan's personal life or say love life was no less exciting than his reel life.

Why Shah-Gauri Broke Up?

The picture-perfect couple is looked upon by many as an ideal couple. But many might be least aware that Gauri broke-up with Shah before they had even tied the knots.

Earlier during a talk show 'Koffee With Karan', Gauri had confessed that she once called off their relationship as Shah was too possessive.
Gauri said, "I thought maybe it was too young for us to decide anything to get married. So, I just took a short break. He was too possessive for me and I could not handle that."

Gauri went on to add that she wanted her own space and did this thing for a while before reconciling.

Shah had first met Gauri when he was only 18 years old at a common friend's party in 1984. He saw Gauri dancing with another man but couldn't ask her to dance with him.

On that particular incident, SRK was quoted as saying, "I'm not cool with women. I was never the guy to ask 'May I have the next dance please'. But there was this girl dancing in front of me, I asked my friend who she was. He went to find out and danced with her. He came and told me, “She’s waiting for her boyfriend."

However, the reality was that it was not her boyfriend she was waiting for, but she said so to avoid dancing.

As it was Shah's first relationship, he was very possessive regarding Gauri. He didn't like her talking to other men.

When he proposed Gauri for the first time, she turned down her proposal saying that her parents didn't like him.

After calling off the relationship, Gauri moved to Mumbai and Shah sold his camera for money and followed her to Mumbai. After searching for Gauri on Mumbai streets, SRK found her at a beach and it was a tearful reunion. This time, Shah proposed her for marriage and she again refused it.

A year later, when Shah's mother passed away, Gauri felt sorry for him and said "Okay, let's marry."

Finally, the duo tied the knots on October 25, 1991 after overcoming all hurdles.

SRK's Marriage & Filmy Career

During the interview, Shah also said that many producers didn't want him to get married as bachelor actors have better fan following than married actors.

However, the Zero actor said, "Mushkil se pataya, shaadi karni padegi. (I went through a lot of challenges to convince her, I have to marry her)."

As the 'Chak De! India' actor believes, respecting religion is essential, but it should not come in the way of love.
