Samantha's Shaakuntalam incurs Rs 20 crore loss; 'big jerk in my career', says producer

Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s ‘Shaakuntalam’ was one of the much-awaited films of this year. However, the film was a dud at the box office and failed to recreate the magic like Samantha’s previous movies.

The makers of the movie reportedly suffered a huge loss of Rs 20 crore. Recently, producer Dil Raju opened up on the below-expectation performance of the movie and termed it as a big jerk in his career.

Speaking to a YouTube channel, Dil Raju said, “2017 was an ultimate year for me as it brought so many profits for me. Out of my 50 productions, only four or five movies did not perform well. However, Shaakuntalam came as a big jerk in my 25-year career in the film industry.”

On the other hand, producer Chitti Babu had also come down heavily on Samantha after the failure of the movie and said that the actress was finished.

“She is trying to gain sympathy by talking about her myositis diagnosis as she is finished and cannot get back to stardom again,” he stated.
He further stated, “I wonder how Samantha, who lost her heroine status, was suited for the role of Shakuntala. I do not have any interest in Shaakuntalam.”

Giving him a befitting reply, Samantha shared a screenshot on ear hair that read, “How do people have hair growing from ears” and the answer read, “due to increased testosterone.”

On the work front, Samantha is all set to rock in the Indian version of spy thriller ‘Citadel’ also starring the dashing Varun Dhawan.
