Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Samantha Ruth Prabhu has always been vocal about her stand in support of women who have faced molestation and sexual abuse. Once again the actress has come out powerfully in support of the women who in one way or the other have been a part of Tollywood and have suffered sexual abuse. In her latest Instagram story, she urged the Telangana government to come out in the open with the subcommittee report.
This is the same report that was submitted by The Voice of Women, a women's group that supports working girls in the Telugu Film Industry (TFI). In the wake of the sexual abuse cases and reports that have come out in the open in Mollywood after the release of the Hema Committee report, this request by the Kushi actress is an indication that there have been instances and reports of sexual abuse in Tollywood as well.
Now Samantha has requested the Telangana government to openly circulate this report so that all those involved in such activities pay the price for their misconduct.
The Family Man 2 actress appreciated the efforts done by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) in Kerala which has been the key organisation that has brought out in the open the issue of sexual harassment in Mollywood. In her post, she penned, “We, the women of the Telugu film industry, welcome the Hema Committee report and applaud the persistent efforts of the WCC in Kerala, which has laid the path to this moment.”
By comparing the Hema Committee report with that of TFI Samantha has hinted at the urgency of taking required measures in Tollywood as well so that the instances of sexual abuse are stopped.
This is a big step in the right direction which can help the hidden sexual abuse issues of the Telugu film industry come out in the open. With a big celebrity like Samantha Ruth Prabhu endorsing and requesting for such a step from the state government, the movement has now got more weight and is expected to put pressure on the required authorities to take action similar to that taken after the Mollywood sexual abuse issues were published.
