Nitesh Kumar Sahoo

Bollywood currently is down with south-wind. The recent movies of bankable Akshay Kumar to Dhoom star Hrithik Roshan and heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor have sunk at box office. On the other hand, south films are ruling both at the BO counter and audience turnout.

Pushpa, with footfalls of around 2 crore, it raked a total of Rs 85 crore for its Hindi version. With its total collection, the Allu Arjun starrer topped the list of highest all India footfalls for 2021.

On the other hand, KGF Chapter 2 clocked a massive 50 million footfalls including all languages. The Kannada movie ringed at the box office making its way to the 2nd spot on the list of Indian movies with highest box office collection worldwide. The audience flocked to theatres in record numbers for KGF Chapter 2. As per trade reports, KGF 2 hit the mark of 5 crore footfalls in India which is a huge achievement in today’s time.

Meanwhile, Hindi movie Brahmastra registered one of the biggest opening days for a Bollywood film in recent times and the craze continued for a few days. However, on National Film Day the footfalls dramatically increased.

Though Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan starrer Vikram Vedha was a remake, it was consumed by the Hindi audience. However, the occupancy nationally slowed down towards the evening on day one itself.

Bollywood gasping for breath!

The brand Bollywood, touted as the torch bearer of Indian cinema, is gasping for breath. It seems, 2022 will turn out another avalanche year for the Hindi cinema as the current year is about to end.

Meanwhile, B Town and Hindi movie admirers are hopeful that the wind will change its course and the spring season will arrive. Though 2023 is still months away, several A-listed stars have booked their dates with destiny.

Most importantly, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are prepping for a roaring comeback in 2023. While SRK is all set for a thumping comeback with Pathaan (January 25), Jawan (June 2) and Dunki (December 22), Sallu is ready with Tiger 3 (November 10) and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (April 21).

Shah Rukh Khan targets 2023

After the debacle of Zero in 2018, fans are eagerly awaiting his comeback. While excitement for Pathaan has reached the zenith, everyone is highly anticipating for Jawan and Dunki. Fans are hopeful that King Khan will once again put on fire on the silver screen with his mega projects.

Will Bhaijaan bring ‘Jaan’ In Bollywood?

Meanwhile, it is expected that Salman will have a glorious entry in 2023 after his recent movie bombed at the box office. Considering the audience study of the A-listed actors of B Town, while Sallu bhai’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun recorded 7 crore watch, blockbuster movies including Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai had views between 3.5 to 3 crore.

Salman vs Shah Rukh

Meanwhile, SRK’s blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge registered 4.7 crore views, which till date remains the highest for the actor. On the other hand, movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khusi Kabhi Gham recorded between 3.5 to 3 crore views.

On the other hand, B Town’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan’s Raja Hindustani recorded 4 crore, which remains the highest. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s Mohra registered 2.1 crore and Rowdy Rathore recorded 2 crore views.

The pages of Bollywood history in recent time depict, Khans have dominance at the box office with a roaring opening. The Khan trio has a record for a roaring opening day. However, their magic seems to have diminished since a few years. Above all, the dominance of south films have increased spectacularly in these few years. Though Aamir’s latest release Laal Singh Chaddha bombed at the box office, it has been doing exceptionally well on OTT. Meanwhile, the high-octane movies of SRK and Sallu Bhai have spiked the excitement among all.

While Sallu’s two movies under Tiger franchise have done exceptionally well at the box office, it can be expected that the third installment will also draw the audience to the theatres. Meanwhile, SRK’s Pathan and Jawaan promise high-end actions.

Khans in action

Earlier, Sallu has proven time and again with his action movies, which went on to become blockbusters. The movies include Dabangg franchise, Wanted, Tere Naam, Bodyguard, etc. Meanwhile, though SRK's comfort zone is romance, he also has tried out his skills in action in a couple of movies like Don, Don 2, Raees, Ra One, Main Hoon Na and Chennai Express, to name a few. Apart from his romantic aspect, fans admired his action avatar.

Now, fans are highly hopeful that both the Khans will once again rule the box office with their mega blockbusters. Meanwhile, excitement has reached the zenith as it is touted that Salman will have an extended cameo in Pathaan and Shah Rukh will appear in Tiger 3 as both the movies are under YRF's Spy Universe. But, the reality can be judged after their movies hit the theatres.
