KGF 2 has opened to a massive response with most of the theaters completely booked for the weekend. After RRR’s pan India rampage, now it is the turn of yet another South Indian movie to repeat the same feat at the box office and may even escalate the statistics of the Rajamouli-directed flick.
Earlier it was Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise that made people forget Akshay Kumar’s blockbuster Sooryavanshi. Out of all, the Hindi movies that have been released post-pandemic, only The Kashmir Files has managed to hold the fort, and that too because the subject was quite sensitive and different from the regular action thriller or rom-com drama.
However, none of the other Bollywood movies including Akshay Kumar’s Bachchan Pandey or John Abraham’s Attack has been able to even come closer to the super success that RRR and now KGF 2 is expected to achieve. And this can be the alarm bell for all the upcoming big movies including Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan, Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter, and Salman Khan’s Tiger 3.
All these movies have stellar star cast and a big production house with a huge chain of distributors to back. SRK has been paired with Deepika Padukone in Pathan, Salman and Katrina Kaif reunites for the third installment of the Tiger franchise whereas Hrithik Roshan will feature opposite Deeps in Fighter.
The hype for these movies is big because SRK is returning after a long time to the big screen, Deeps and Duggu are being paired opposite each other for the first time and Salman’s Tiger franchise is already a big hit. But even then, it cannot be compared with the level of excitement and anticipation that fans across India showed for RRR and KGF 2.
And that can be a warning sign for the upcoming Bollywood biggies as Pushpa: The Raj, RRR, KGF 2 and for that matter, even Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam showed that when it comes to storyline, music, technology, and acting, the Southern film industry has stumbled upon the right formula that is enough to attract audience in thousands to the theaters.
All the upcoming three Bollywood biggies of SRK, Salman, and Hrithik are action movies and now they will have to compete with the larger-than-life visual effects that have been so convincingly embedded in the recent Southern blockbusters.
