Robert Downey Jr spills the beans on Doctor Doom's character, 'Not variant of Tony Stark'
The announcement of Iron Man aka Tony Stark fame Robert Downey Jr's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) elated fans. However, instead of the iconic superhero, Downey will be seen as the supervillain, Doctor Doom, of the Fantastic Four. Following that, several speculations were abuzz regarding 'Doctor Doom as a variant of Tony Stark'. However, Downey has spilt the beans on his supervillainous character.
At the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 Hall H Event, it was announced that Downey will be the big bad in Avengers: Doomsday. This left many shocked and full of questions. Following that fans wondered how the makers would convince the audience that Doctor Doom exactly looks the same as Tony Stark. Thus, speculations were abuzz that Doctor Doom might be a variant of Tony Stark from some other universe that went rogue.
However, Downey has cleared the air that he is playing Victor Von Doom and not Tony Stark in the new instalment of the Avengers series.
Further, he talked about his decision to take on the role of Doctor Doom and put the Tony Story variant theory to rest, who dies in Avengers: Endgame while saving Earth-616 from Thanos.
According to the Comic Book Movie, Downey discussed the inception, confirmation and execution of the idea of bringing him back as Doctor Doom in MCU's Avengers. He recalled that it all began with his desire to be used to Bob Iger outside the MCU. Then, he recalled about sitting down with Kevin Feige to discuss the demand for his return to the MCU and how to make it worth the anticipation.
Further, he spoke about how they arrived at the idea of Doctor Doom and how he is Victor Von Doom. Downey said, "Then we both realised over time that it was another thing that just disproves any doubt anyone could ever have about that guy, a very sophisticated and creative thinker, about how we can avoid going backwards, how we can avoid disappointing expectations, how we can exceed the expectations."
Well, Doctor Doom's character "wowed" Downey. Later, he went to Kevin and said that he just "likes" Doctor Doom's character.
Well, certainly fans can't wait to see Downey as the supervillain, how he enters the Avengers and how he wreaks havoc in Doomsday. As per the latest rumours, Downey will be introduced in the post-credit sequence of The Fantastic Four as Victor Von Doom. He will be seen killing the entire Council of Kangs, effectively giving Jonathan Majors' villain a farewell. With this, he will also pave the way for Doom to become the next supervillain.
