'Ranveer Singh is telling lies': Prashant Narayanan slams Simmba actor
Bollywood actor Prashant Narayanan has stirred controversy by slamming Ranveer Singh for fabricating his method acting approach for the role of Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2018 film Padmaavat.
In an interview, Siddharth Kannan asked Narayanan if Ranveer had indeed entered into a dark phase because of his method acting for the role of Alauddin Khilji.
“Ranveer Jaisa Log Kehte Hain Ki Woh Dark Phase Mein Ghus Gaye The, Uski Role Ki Wajah Se,” Kannan asked.
However, Prashant utterly dismissed Singh's claims of immersing himself into a "dark space" to portray the character, labeling them as "nonsense" and suggesting they were promotional tactics to justify his remuneration.
Narayanan further criticized Singh's acting prowess, stating, “He's not a mind-blowing actor... Going into dark spaces and all this is nonsense.”
“Woh Jhooth Bol Raha Hai… Kyunki Woh Aisa Mind Blowing Actor Nahin Hai Ya Woh Aisa Koi Mind Blowing Role Nahin Hai. Kahin Na Kahin Justify Toh Karna Padega Na Itne Saare Crore Rupaye Mil Rahe Hain,” Prashant claimed.
Prashant Narayanan Ignites Discussions
This debate has ignited discussions within the film industry about the authenticity and challenges of method acting, highlighting differing perspectives on the lengths actors go to embody their characters.
Earlier, acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for his method acting, had stood out in support of Ranveer during an interview. Without naming Narayanan directly, Siddiqui questioned the basis of such judgments, emphasizing that understanding an actor's process requires insight into their personal experiences and dedication.
He also highlighted the rigorous nature of method acting, comparing it to Heath Ledger's commitment to his role in The Dark Knight, and criticized those who undermine such efforts as ‘very irresponsible’.
