Ram Charan’s Peddi: Why THIS actress rejected the role of his mother

Film industries are no strangers to age-inappropriate casting, but actress Swasika recently faced an offer that took even her by surprise. At just 33, she was asked to play the mother of Telugu superstar Ram Charan, who is 40, in director Buchi Babu Sana’s much-talked-about big-budget project Peddi.

'Play Ram Charan’s Mother? I Said No'

In a recent chat with a YouTube channel, Swasika revealed how the unexpected offer came her way. 

“I repeatedly got asked to play the mother. But the one that shocked me the most was to play Ram Charan’s mother. It’s in Telugu, a big movie called Peddi. But to play Ram Charan’s mother? I said I didn’t want to do it and said no,” she recalled.

Seven Years Younger Yet Offered A Mother Role

What makes the casting call even more baffling is that Swasika is seven years younger than Ram Charan himself. Still, she says that after her motherly role in the 2024 hit Lubber Pandhu, filmmakers have been approaching her mostly with mother characters- though none as surprising as this one.
