Rajkummar Rao, renowned for his versatility in the Hindi film industry with films like ‘Stree’, ‘Badhai Do’, ‘Bheed’, ‘Trapped’, and ‘Citylights’, is set to explore a new genre. He will star in the upcoming action drama ‘Maalik’, directed by Pulkit of ‘Bhakshak’ fame.

Rajkummar Rao and Medha Shankr have been roped in for ‘Maalik’. According to Mid-day, Rajkummar was impressed with the script and agreed to the project, which is expected to commence filming in September.

Medha Shankr, who made her Bollywood debut with the critically acclaimed film ‘12th Fail’ alongside Vikrant Massey, has been cast as the female lead. The script required an intelligent, soft, and sensitive actor, making Medha a perfect match for Rajkummar's character.

The source further revealed that Rao is eager to explore the action genre, a side of his career he has not yet ventured into. He has not starred in a massy film before, and ‘Maalik’ will present him in a new avatar.

"When Jay and Pulkit approached him for ‘Maalik’, Raj immediately agreed as the film will showcase him in high-octane stunts. He has started working on his physique as the role demands a muscular frame," the source added.

‘Maalik’ is described as an emotion-driven action entertainer, featuring Rajkummar performing intense stunts for the first time. The film will begin shooting in Lucknow in September, followed by a schedule in Benaras, with a three-month start-to-finish timeline.
