Roadies: Raghu Ram reveals reason for quitting show, 'Were pushed to deal aggressively with contestants'
Roadies is one of the popular reality TV shows in India. However, the show has multiple times faced criticism for portraying violence, aggression and abusive language. Moreover, Roadies has also faced controversies for the twins Raghu Ram and Rajiv Lakshman, the host and judges, for their behaviour towards the contestants and using foul language on national television. But, recently, Raghu Ram, who remained associated with Roadies for 11 years, disclosed the reason behind quitting the show. He also made a big revelation that they were pushed to deal aggressively with the contestants on Roadies.
During an interview with Untriggered With AminJaz Podcast, Raghu Ram revealed that he and his brother Rajiv decided to end their stint with Roadies. Raghu said that there was excessive interference from the channel and they were pushed to adopt a more aggressive approach towards the contestants, a style which was increasingly uncomfortable for them.
Raghu said, “In those times I have behaved in a manner with which people would have a problem with it. But I was doing a job, is it right, is it wrong, I don’t know. It’s the same thing, influencing, Poonam Pandey, I don’t know… If you hate me for what I did then guilty as charged. I am not apologetic to you about it.”
Revealing the reason for walking out of the show, he said, “As you grow bigger, you feel the pressure to cater. I felt it; that’s why I left Roadies. Rajiv and I walked off because there was too much interference. We were told to scream at people."
Raghu also added that currently, Roadies is exactly like the makers want it to be but not what he wanted it to make. He also noted that the 'once-popular show' doesn't connect as much with the audience because it lacks honesty.
Further, he admitted that his on-screen persona was a reflection of his extreme rage with society and everything he was going through in his personal life.
"I was going through a f****d-up time where that guy (the Raghu on Roadies) was an extreme expression of my rage and relationship with society, with God, and with the concept that I felt I was lied to by society," Raghu added.
