  • R Madhavan made his debut in the film industry in 1998.
  • On this birthday today, here is an overview of his journey in the films.

R. Madhavan turns 53 today. He has been working relentlessly in the entertainment industry for more than 25 years now.

Starting from small advertisements to venturing into the television industry with a few TV serials and then finally becoming a movie star, Madhavan has a remarkable profile as an actor and director.

However, his first choice was never acting. Rather he never intended to be an actor from the start.

Born in a highly educated Tamil family and brought up in Jamshedpur, Bihar, Madhavan was quite good in school and college and was actively involved in all the different extra-curricular activities including military training.

He was very good in NCC and led the cadets in Maharashtra. He was very much interested in joining the military and even went to England for further training.

Sadly, due to the age cut-off, he missed the opportunity and could not join the programme. When his dream of joining the military was broken, he chose public speaking as his career and began oratory classes in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur city.

While this new move certainly did not do any good for his career, it was here he met his wife Sarita Birje who was a student in his public speaking class.

He made his debut in movies with the English film Inferno and finally debuted in the Indian cinema with a Kannada film in 1998.

Over the years, Madhavan has worked in movies in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, English, Hindi, Kannada, Malay, and Malayalam. He made a debut as a director with Rocketry: The Nambi Effect which received critical acclaim across the country. R. Madhavan is a highly multitalented person.

While his career was going strong in the movies the brilliant actor also started playing golf.

In 2017, Madhavan was the winner of the qualification round of the Mercedes Trophy Golf Meet held in Mumbai and he also qualified for the National Finals the same year.

He is one of the hottest vegetarians in the film industry and has been highly appreciated for his dedicated work towards PETA.
