Priyanka and Thalapathy Vijay
Priyanka Chopra has transformed into one of the most iconic global stars of today. From winning the Miss World crown in 2000 to making a mark in Bollywood, her versatility and talent have taken her to Hollywood and beyond. With memorable roles in Quantico, Baywatch, and The White Tiger, she has become an influential figure, embracing both acting and producing while championing social causes and cultural diversity on the global stage.
However, the journey to success wasn’t a cakewalk for the Bareilly girl. Recently, Priyanka’s mother opened up on Priyanka’s struggle in Mumbai to make it big in the film industry.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, Madhu Chopa recalled Priyanka’s debut film ‘Thamizhan’ opposite Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay. Although she was nervous as Vijay was a superstar already, Thalapathy guided and supported her, whom Madhu described as Priyanka’s first mentor.
She recalled the film’s choreography, handled by Prabhu Deva’s brother, was quite challenging. However, Vijay ensured that Priyanka felt comfortable and well taken care of on set. Madhu also recalled their initial days of struggle in Mumbai and how they had to rely on trains to reach movie sets and back home.
Their daily routine involved leaving Kandivali at 5:30 am to reach coach Mickey Mehta’s training session by 6:30 am before Priyanka moved to a paying guest facility in Santa Cruz. Madhu believes Priyanka was always surrounded by positive energy and good fortune, with challenges never overwhelming her.
She then made her big Bollywood debut with Akshay Kumar in ‘Andaaz’ that was a huge hit. Since then, there has been no turning back for Priyanka. She has almost worked with all the superstars, including Shah Rukh Khan in Don and a couple of movies with superstar Salman Khan, before moving to Hollywood.
