Priyanka Chopra Jonas masters Mayurbhanj Chhau for SSMB29, immersing in Odisha's culture and martial dance tradition under SS Rajamouli's direction.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

When it comes to dancing, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a force of nature. From Western jazz to Bollywood thumkas, India’s beloved Desi Girl has mastered it all.

Now, the ‘Heads of State’ star has taken her artistry to a whole new level by diving deep into one of India’s most challenging and culturally rich classical dance forms from Odisha- Mayurbhanj Chhau.

Immersing Herself in a Martial Tradition

For her pivotal role in SSMB29, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka underwent intense training in Mayurbhanj Chhau, a semi-classical dance form rooted in the tribal martial traditions of Odisha.

Known for its powerful footwork, dramatic stances, and expressive storytelling, Chhau is rarely attempted by mainstream actors.

A choreographer from the film revealed, “It’s not every day a global star puts in this kind of dedication to an Indian art form. Priyanka brought humility, discipline, and unmatched energy to the rehearsal room.”

Cultural Immersion in Koraput

Priyanka didn’t stop at the dance floor. She spent several days in Odisha’s scenic Koraput district, exploring Kotpad’s marketplaces, capturing its natural beauty and tribal culture on Instagram. The serene landscapes and authentic local flavours are expected to feature prominently in the film.

SSMB29: A Cinematic Spectacle in the Making

With a staggering budget between Rs 1000–1500 crore, SSMB29 is shaping up to be one of India’s most ambitious pan-Indian films, releasing in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Star Power Meets Soil and Soul

By mastering Mayurbhanj Chhau, as reported by BIZZ BUZZ, and embracing Odisha’s heritage, Priyanka Chopra has once again proved that true stardom lies in authenticity.

With SSMB29, she is not just returning to Indian cinema but also bringing the richness of India’s cultural heartland with her.

If reports are to be believed, SSMB29 may be released on March 25, 2027, which would be the fifth anniversary of Rajamouli's record-breaking movie, RRR.
