Nitesh Kumar Sahoo

Tollywood actor Prabhas is right now among the busiest actors of Indian cinema with several of his movies waiting for release in a row. While Prabhas in November first week had wrapped up shooting for Adipurush, the ‘Baahubali’ is currently busy with Project K along with Millennium Star Amitabh Bachchan.

Darling Prabhas has more flicks including Radhe Shyam and Salaar in a row. Following the stupendous success Of Baahubali series, Prabhas somehow failed to impress with Saaho. But now, the Rebel star is all set to enthral his fans throughout the year in different characters.

Among the movies in row, fans are quite excited for Adipurush, which is a cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Though movie lovers are well aware that Prabhas will be portraying the character of Lord Rama, Saif Ali Khan will be seen as Demon King Ravana, Kriti Sanon as Sita and Sunny Singh as Laxman, they are unaware about more details.

The Indian mythological epic, Ramayana, has been adapted several times for television serials and movies in India. However, fans are excited to know what new blend they will be getting in the Prabhas starrer.

Well, to feed your excitement, helmer Om Raut has spilled the beans about Adipurush that will level up your anticipation.

Raut already rose to fame with Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior which was a box office hit in 2020. Moreover, he had left his footprints in the industry with his directorial debut in 2015 with Lokmanya: Ek Yugpurush. Raut and Prabhas with the concept of the Indian epic, it is expected that the team will shatter the box office records.

During an exclusive interview with Variety, Raut said the idea for Adipurush came to him when he attended the screening of Japanese filmmaker  Yogo Sako's anime version of Ramayana- The Prince Of Light.

Raut was quoted as saying, "I was mesmerised. This is the way this story has to be told, very condensed and precise."

Raut was overwhelmed as he felt the characters and at the same time impressed with the modern and fresh presentation. Instead of making the teachings and all other crucial things heavy, boring and monotonous, everything was very simple and children friendly, Raut told Variety.

Being an engineering student, Raut got fascinated by Japanese technology. "I said, if these foreigners can come and make our epic into such an interesting piece, what are we doing," said Raut.

"We should do something like this and I need to tell the Ramayana in my own way," he added.

During the first wave of Covid pandemic and the virus-induced lockdown in 2020, Raut got the opportunity to revisit Adipurush. He completed the script in 45 days. The helmer had only Prabhas in mind to rope in as the lead actor. Though Raut barely knew him, he called him. Listening to the descriptions of three scenes, Prabhas immediately called up the director and asked him to discuss the project in person.

After Prabhas' nod for Adipurush, T-Series came on board and the project kicked off.

Though there are no official revelations about the budget, the unofficial estimation for Adipurush is a whopping amount of INR 4 billion.
As in Valmiki's Ramayana, King of Ayodhya Rama travels to Lanka to rescue his wife Sita, who was abducted by demon King Lankesh Ravana. The story of Adipurush is set 7000 years ago and Raut has adopted modern storytelling techniques to narrate the epic tale in a new way.

Prabhas' screen name will be Raghav instead of generally referred name Rama. Similarly, Kriti's on-screen name will be Janaki instead of Sita. On the other hand, Saif's on-screen name will be Lankesh instead of Ravana. All the on-screen names are derivatives of their names in Ramayana.

Moreover, Adipurush literally means 'first man' but here in this movie, it means 'best man.'

With Adipurush, the helmer aims to present Lord Rama as a normal human which will make him more approachable.

Adipurush is yet to get a release date, but it is believed that the makers will release it in the second half of 2022. The movie will be dubbed in several south Indian languages apart from Hindi.
