Malayalam actor Dileep Sankar with a co-star
Malayalam film and TV actor Dileep Shankar was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Thiruvananthapuram, police said on December 29. He was found hanging in the room when hotel staff opened the room door, sources said.
According to sources, Dileep was shooting for a TV serial titled ‘Panchagni’. He had checked into the hotel on December 19, and had since then been staying in the room for the past few days. However, he wasn’t mysteriously leaving the room since the last two days.
His co-stars were trying to reach him but could not get through. Later, the hotel staff broke open the door after foul smell started emanating from his room, only to find him hanging. On being informed, police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy.
Further details and cause of the demise are yet to be disclosed while a probe into his death has been launched.
“There are no signs of any foul play at this stage. The exact cause of the death will be ascertained after the post-mortem reports,” a police source informed Bollywoodlife.
When contacted, the director of the show that Dileep was shooting recently said that the actor was suffering from a serious illness and was under treatment.
There was a two-day break amid the shoot and the actor wasn’t reachable, he added. Dileep’s untimely death has sent shockwaves in Malayalam industry.
