Reality TV star, actress, and popular model Poonam Pandey finally opened up on getting trolled for her bizarre ‘fake death’ stunt on social media to spread awareness of cervical cancer. Netizens were so upset that she was brutally trolled online for faking her death.

Poonam has now reacted to the trolls and claimed that she was promoting something for a good cause, a cancer that is preventable yet so many women die. She further stated that she had seen her mother suffer from throat cancer.

“All I did was to raise awareness and now many people are finally talking about cervical cancer. People are googling what is cervical cancer. Many women have now told me that they are getting their HPV vaccines done. They are also doing their pap smear test done,” Poonam was quoted by BollywoodLife.

Poonam went on to add that she never did it for publicity as she does not need any such publicity. She admitted that she knew she would face backlash, but then made up her mind to stand up for a cause.

“I people knew and spoke about cervical cancer, I wouldn’t have faked my death,” Poonam further added.

Meanwhile, the agency behind Poonam Pandey’s fake death stunt issued an apology, stating that their intention was not to hurt anyone but to create awareness about cervical cancer. Schbang, a media and technology transformation company based in Mumbai was actively involved in the death hoax.

In a statement, Schbang stated, “Yes, we were involved in the initiative for Poonam Pandey to spread awareness about Cervical Cancer. We would like to extend a heartfelt apology. Our actions were driven by a singular mission – to elevate awareness about Cervical Cancer.”

“Many of you may be unaware that Poonam’s own mother has bravely battled Cancer. Having been through the challenges of battling a disease like this at such close personal quarters, she understands the importance of prevention and the criticality of awareness, especially when a vaccine is available,” the statement added.
