  • Netflix has decided to cut down a large portion of its content and is looking for fresh ideas and stories.
  • This can be a gamechanger for the Indian OTT industry.

Netflix’s global head Bela Bajaria was in the country recently and it was expected that there will be some new announcements post her visit. The OTT platform has managed to barely survive in India as other channels like Amazon Prime, Disney Plus Hotstar, and Zee5 are giving it tough competition. Moreover, the digital platform has also lost a good number of subscribers in the last few months.

And, that is why the channel has decided to drop 90% of its content and is now looking for fresh ideas, concepts, and stories. That means, that even sequels with decent earlier seasons will have to fulfill the parameters of good content and fresh presentation if they want to get a nod from the Netflix officials.

The first season of Delhi Crime did quite well on Netflix and that is why it was given an extension for the second season. However, now reports indicate that the officials of the digital channel are not quite happy with the way the content has been shot for the second season of Delhi Crime. And that is why, it is being delayed. Netflix has reportedly asked the makers to reshoot some part of the upcoming season and only then they will allow Delhi Crime 2 to stream on its platform.

This stand by the leading global OTT channel can bring a good transformation in the OTT industry of the country because nowadays, even trash content is being streamed by digital mediums thereby making a big impact on the quality of entertainment that is dished out to the audience.

The insistence to accept only the best stories and concepts can bring about a welcome change in the way series and movies on OTT platforms are created. So even though Netflix has been forced to take this stand for losing its subscribers, this decision can be a big game-changer.
