National Book Lovers Day: Novels being adapted into movies in 2024, check the list

Reading books and novels has a profound impact on society as a whole. Despite the rise of digital media, certain people love reading and keep exploring the vast world of literature. Undeniably, the adaptation of books/ novels into full-length movies is a tried and tested formula across all film industries. Adaptation of books into films allows the viewers to see some of their favourite characters brought to life. 

As readers celebrate National Book Lovers Day on August 9, here we bring the list of novels that are being adapted into films. 

The Lord of the Rings: The War of The Rohirrim

J.R.R. Tolkien, an English author, is renowned for high fantasy works of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. In total six movies have been made based on the novels of Tolkien. Now, The Lord Of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is the latest adaptation. This will be an animated prequel to one of the biggest movie trilogies. This movie's plot is drawn from a tale found in the appendices of the 1954 novel. The movie is scheduled for release in December 2024.

Wicked

Wicked is a widely popular series of novels by Gregory Maguire. The story reinterprets Frank L. Bauma's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The first book of the series is focused on Elphaba, the wicked witch of the West. However, she is portrayed as an innocent young witch who is manipulated and exiled by the wizard. Helmed by Jon M. Chu, the film adaptation stars Cynthia Erivo in the lead. It will be a two-part film and the first part is scheduled to release in November 2024. 

Harold and The Purple Crayon

Crockett Johnson’s cherished children's book, Harold and the Purple Crayon is being adapted into a movie with Zachary Levi in the lead. Levi plays the role of adult Harold, who possesses the magical ability to bring anything he draws to life. Helmed by Carlos Saldanha, the movie is set to release on 15 August 2024.

Nightbitch

Nightbitch is a cinematic adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s 2001 novel with the same title. Amy Adams plays the lead character in the movie. The satirical story delves into the themes of motherhood and rage. The mother's routine life begins to shift after she suspects that she might turn into a dog. Helmed by Marielle Heller, Nightbitch is scheduled for release on 6 December 2024. 

It Ends With Us

It Ends With Us is popular romantic book author Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. It is being adapted into a movie and fans are already highly excited since the announcement. This heartfelt story features Blake Lively as Lily Bloom. The film hit the theaters today on 9 August 2024. And, the audience response is quite good, as it seems from the reviews.
