Nag Ashwin gearing up for his next with Rajinikanth! What about Kalki 2898 AD sequel?
The excitement for Kalki 2898 AD 2 has skyrocketed ever since director Nag Ashwin confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel will begin filming in December 2025. Fans are already buzzing with theories about how the story will unfold after the massive success of the first film. Adding to the frenzy, a new report of Ashwin collaborating with Rajinikanth has sparked speculations about whether Thalaivar is entering the Kalki universe. However, behind the scenes, a different story unfolds.
According to a recent report by Filmfare, Nag Ashwin is set to collaborate with Thalaivar Rajinikanth. Ashwin has found a powerful script for a high-budget entertainer with the superstar in the lead.
Sources reveal that Rajinikanth gave his nod almost instantly, as the story has all the classic ingredients of a Rajini blockbuster. The director reportedly wants to complete this project before fully diving into Kalki 2.
The portal quoted the source revealing, “It did not take much time for Rajinikanth to approve Nag Ashwin’s script. The story typically has all the elements that fans look forward to in a Rajinikanth-starrer. Moreover, with a 100 per cent success rate as a director and one of the go-to filmmakers in Tollywood, Rajini couldn’t resist."
Well, if the reports are anything to go by, though Ashwin's mega collaboration with Rajini is on the cards, it has no connection with the Kalki universe.
Notably, Ashwin has already assured fans that the sequel will deliver more of Prabhas’ character, Bhairava/Karna. The director explained that the first installment focused on world-building and the backstories of SUM-80 aka Sumati (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan). The sequel will now shift its lens towards Bhairava/Karna and Ashwatthama, while also highlighting Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who emerges stronger in his mission.
The sequel will further explore Bhairava and Ashwatthama’s fight to protect Sumati’s unborn child, prophesied to be the divine avatar Lord Kalki.
