Mughal-e-Azam remake Amitabh Bachchan as Akbar, Abhishek Bachchan as Salim Aishwarya Rai as Anarkali
1960s Bollywood movie Mughal-e-Azam remains a classic cult. Prithviraj Kapoor and Dilip Kapoor played the roles of Emperor Akbar and Salim respectively. And the graceful Madhubala played the character of Anarkali. With their powerful character portrayals, the cast turned their characters immortal. However, Prithviraj and Dilip set a benchmark for toxic father-son relationships. Well, there are certain iconic movies remade in the new age. However, renowned filmmakers didn't opt for the Mughal-e-Azam remake.
But, did you know that a big producer from the South decided to do a Mughal-e-Azam remake? Moreover, he had plans to bring in the Bachchan family including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the remake of the biggest Indian films of all time. Yes, though it sounds surprising, the producer came up with the idea of bringing the entire Bachchan family into this period family drama.
Recently, filmmaker Mehul Kumar during an interview talked about the renowned producer and his dream of casting the entire Bachchan family. While talking to Bollywood Thikana, Mehul said, "Once a big producer from the south called me and said that we want to remake Mughal-e-Azam and we want to cast Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya ji, Aishwarya and Abhishek. They made a proposal.”
Without revealing the producer's name, Mehul recalled that the producer wanted to cast Big B as Emperor Akbar, Jaya as Jodha Bai, Abhishek as Salim and Aishwarya as Anarkali.

However, when the filmmaker asked the producer if he had discussed this with Amitabh Bachchan or not, the producer said that the veteran actor had asked him to speak to Mehul first.
Mehul said, "I told them that Mughal-e-Azam can’t be remade. This proposal won’t fly because people will compare it with the original film. He then called Amit ji that this is what Mehul Kumar said and Amit ji said that Mehul had said the right thing.”
Well, the renowned producer couldn't fulfil his dreams of remaking the Mughal-e-Azam with Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya. We can just imagine how the historical movie would have been with the Bachchan family recreating the iconic roles.
