Bollywood stars have been openly voicing their concerns about the growing rape incidents and the safety of women in India. Actors like Hrithik Roshan, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Nikita Dutta and many more expressed shock on the Kolkata rape and murder and urged punishment so harsh for the perpetrators that no one would dare to think about rape again.

In a recent interview, ‘Vedaa’ actor John Abraham clarified the difference patriotism and jingoism and urged people who loved India, who loved the country, to criticize its flaws and not remain silent in the face of ignorance.

He admitted that women, children and animals are not safe in India. Simply chanting ‘India is great’ is meaningless unless people raise their voice against the injustices happening in the country, the Dhoom actor stated. He expressed his love for India but made it clear that he would not hesitate to criticize the ignorance that exists within it.

Meanwhile, a decade-old video of actress Mallika Sherawat is going viral when the actress slammed ‘Indian society’, not ‘India’ for being regressive. The video is reportedly during the Congress rule when Mallika resided in India, much before she left the country.

The video shows a journalist questioning her for calling ‘India’ a regressive country. However, Mallika shut the journalist and said, “Please do your homework properly, I said that Indian society (not India) is regressive for women. I will tell you exactly why, but this is my point of view. With female foeticide, infanticide happening on almost a daily basis; with gang rapes making the headlines of every newspaper, with honour killings; 40% of Indian women are married below the age of 18. So, I think it’s a very very regressive and depressing state for women.”

Her old video has resurfaced online amidst the horrific Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder. While social media users praised Mallika for slamming the Congress government with such bravery, netizens maintained that rapes and atrocities on women should be dealt with strictly despite any government in power.
