Actress Mrunal Thakur, known for her successes in Telugu love stories like ‘Sita Ramam’ and ‘Hi Nanna,’ expressed her frustration over the scarcity of similar roles in Hindi cinema.
Despite her accomplishments, Thakur revealed to Pinkvilla that she believes she isn't considered 'popular enough' to be cast in romantic films in the Hindi film industry.
When questioned about her prospects in romantic Hindi films, Mrunal candidly said, "I don’t know, I am not popular enough to get a love story yet. Am I wrong? I have to be popular to get a love story, no? There are a lot of films being offered to me, but definitely not romantic movies. I would love to do that."
Thakur went on to share her weariness of the constant need to prove herself to filmmakers, stating, "I’m just tired of proving to filmmakers now. I just want it to happen organically; I am done asking them." Despite this, she expressed a genuine desire to explore romantic roles on the big screen.
Acknowledging the significance of romance in cinema, Thakur mentioned that many fans have thanked her for 'bringing romance back' through films like 'Hi Nanna' and 'Sita Ramam.' She emphasized, "We all grew up watching romantic movies and suddenly there were no films in the genre. Everyone pretends they don’t like romance but everyone watches it secretly."
While Mrunal Thakur continues to receive acclaim for her performances, she will next be seen in Telugu film 'Family Star' opposite Vijay Deverakonda. She also has Hindi film 'Pooja Meri Jaan' by Navjot Gulati in the pipeline.
