Meena Kumari Biopic: Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani frontrunner, but Triptii Dimri wants to play Tragedy Queen!
The much-talked-about biopic on Bollywood’s eternal Tragedy Queen, Meena Kumari, is once again sparking conversations in the film industry. While Kriti Sanon has long been rumoured to be the top choice for the role, fresh buzz suggests that Kiara Advani has also entered the race, making her a strong contender for the coveted part.
The project, helmed by filmmaker Sidharth P. Malhotra in collaboration with Saregama, carries added weight as it has the blessings of the family of late filmmaker Kamal Amrohi- Meena Kumari’s husband. This endorsement lends authenticity and gravitas to the ambitious venture, which aims to capture the life and struggles of the legendary actress.
Amidst this casting tussle, Triptii Dimri has thrown her hat in the ring. During the promotions of her upcoming film Dhadak 2, the actress openly expressed her desire to portray icons she has deeply admired.
Triptii said, “I would love to do a biopic. I am a great fan of Meena Kumari ji and Madhubala ji. If someone does a biopic on either of them, I would love to be a part of it. They were legends, icons, and playing them would be an honour."
Her heartfelt confession has not only excited fans but also added an interesting twist to the casting conversation, with many wondering how her raw charm and screen intensity might blend into the role of Meena Kumari.
Triptii further reflected on the challenges that come with portraying such towering personalities.
“Honestly, when you’re acting, there’s so much pressure at the moment. It’s not like someone else’s face comes into your mind- you’re just reacting to your co-actor, your lines, your scene. Still, playing either of them would be such a learning experience," she explained.
As the official announcement is awaited, one thing is clear: whether it’s Kriti, Kiara, or Triptii, the actress who finally steps into Meena Kumari’s world will carry the burden of recreating one of the most tragic yet celebrated journeys in Indian cinema.
