Madhubala was interested in Dilip Kumar! Saira Banu recalls 'Sahib' never watched Mughal-e-Azam for...
Legendary actor Dilip Kumar ruled the hearts of moviegoers with his impeccable performance onscreen. Muhammad Yusuf Khan was popular as the Tragedy King of Bollywood. Fans are well aware that Saira Banu was a huge fan of 'Sahib' from a very young age. Even though they had a huge age gap, they defied all odds and scripted a love story that remains stronger than any fiction.
Saira Banu admitted having a huge crush on Dilip Sahib since she was 12. In 1960, Dilip Kumar's iconic movie Mughal-e-Azam premiered at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir and after learning that Kumar would be present at the premiere, Banu made it her mission to look her best.
Recalling the day, the veteran actress recently took to social media and shared a long post.
Banu recalled that she groomed for six days so she could look her best at the premiere show. She convinced her mother to lend her a traditional gota saree, that weighed a ton. However, she didn't bother about the weight and draped it with her mother's help. She bravely walked with the heavy fabric.
"I draped it up with my mother’s help and very bravely weathered the storm of swaying when I walked side-to-side with the heavy fabric,” she wrote.
Further, she penned that yesteryear diva "mind-boggling beauteous" Madhubala was "interested in Sahib".
However, nothing could deter Banu's dream of becoming Mrs Dilip Kumar.
But, Banu was left disappointed when Dilip Kumar didn't show up at the premiere on August 5, 1960. She felt cascaded with cold water as the moment she wished to exchange a glance with Sahib went to waste.
Calling this episode a 'fiasco,' she wrote further that Dilip Kumar was quite hurt by K Asif (the director) as he (Asif) had secretly married Dilip's younger sister without informing him.
Further, in her post, Banu wrote that for this reason Dilip Kumar never watched Mughal-e-Azam, one of his iconic movies. However, after several years, when he went to FTII with Saira Banu, he watched the movie for the first time and it was a charming experience.
The legendary actor passed away in 2021 but Mughal-e-Azam still remains one of the classic movies that no other filmmaker ever dared to remake and it remains one of his best movies.
