Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War has been inspired by the iconic movie Sangam from the 60s. Produced under the banner of RK Films, the movie had Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar, and Vyjayanthimala in the lead. It was a romantic love triangle story full of intense scenes and soulful music. While the movie was produced, directed, and acted by Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar received more accolades and appreciation because he ultimately sacrificed his love for his friend.
SLB’s Love and War since is based on Sangam is also expected to be a love triangle with Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Alia Bhatt playing the lead. Today Ranbir Kapoor is a much bigger star than Vicky Kaushal who is slowly climbing the ladders of success. Similarly, during Sangam, Raj Kapoor was playing both the director and actor and had some most beautiful romantic songs picturised on him with Vyjayanthimala.
On the other hand, although Rajendra Kumar was already a big star in those days but was playing the role of a loser, a sad and demure lover who could not express his feelings to his lady love. That was why Sangam was expected to be more of a Raj Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala movie than that of Rajendra Kumar. But Jubilee Kumar walked away with most of the sympathy because, in the end, he sacrifices his life to unite his friend with his lady love.
Coming to Love and War, Vicky Kaushal might walk away with audience sympathy if he plays the role Rajendra Kumar played in Sangam. Ranbir Kapoor is more likely to play Sundar, the character Raj Kumar played in Sangam. So there is a chance that history might repeat itself.
SLB, who has a track record of delivering some of the most-talked superhits in Bollywood has also delivered a beautiful love story with a love triangle starring Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan , and Ajay Devgn. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam continues to be one of the most iconic love stories of all time.
While Salman Khan was the hero of this film, it was Ajay Devgn whose character received more love. So it would be interesting to see who between Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal will get more appreciation for their respective characters in Love and War.
