The King of Indian comedy, Kapil Sharma turns 42 years today. This young talented boy from Amritsar, who first started with theatres and even tried his hands at singing by auditioning for a singing reality show, has now become an icon.

Kapil's stardom is at par with most of the big Bollywood stars and not only his television show is enjoying a good run but his live shows abroad also have record ticket sales.

Kapil came to Mumbai to become a singer

The famous comedian was already into doing dramas and stage shows in Amritsar before he came to Mumbai to try his luck. He had come to the entertainment capital of India to become a singer.

However, he was rejected by the music reality show. He had also auditioned for a comedy reality show but was initially rejected. Later on, he was called back through wild card entry and the rest is history.

While everyone knows that Kapil won The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Show which gave him a break into television in a big way, very few people know that he spent all the 10 lakhs that he won as the winner in the wedding of his sister.

Done multiple jobs

Before becoming a famous comedian, Kapil Sharma tried his hands doing different jobs from picking soda bottle crates to working at a PCO. His real name is Kapil Punj and his father was a Police Constable. He has an elder brother and a sister and since he came from a lower middle-class family many people supported his education because he was good in theatres.

Kapil was listed in the Forbes list

In 2019, Kapil Sharma was ranked in the list of celebs earning the most at 53rd spot. With his contract for The Kapil Sharma Show with Sony which he co-produced with Salman Khan and a hit Punjabi movie that he produced under his K9 banner; the comedian pocketed Rs 35 crore in one year.

He once made a tweet to Narendra Modi

In 2016, Kapil Sharma penned a tweet criticizing BMC for asking bribe of Rs 5 lakh for his office building even though he had already paid tax of Rs 15 crore for the last 5 years. He tagged the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet which backfired badly.

Kapil has a wax statue in New Delhi

Just like big Bollywood celebrities, there is a wax statue of Kapil Sharma in the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum at Connaught Place in New Delhi.
