Laughter riot: From Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 to Stree 2, comedy films all set to rule 2024

Action and romance is the time-tested combination that has been working well at the box office. Rather in 2023, action took over all the other genres with violent and aggressive movies like Animal, Pathaan, Gadar 2, and Jawan becoming big hits. While over the years there have been some good comedy movies and hit franchises like Golmaal, and Hera Pheri, the number is very low.

Even in 2024, there are going to be some big action-based releases like Siddharth Anand’s Fighter with Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Ajay Devgan’s Singham Again. But among all these biggies, some interesting comedy movies, and sequels are gearing up to hit the theaters this year.

Akshay Kumar gearing up for back-to-back comedy flicks

Akshay Kumar is one of the very few Bollywood superstars who has delivered massive hits in both comedy and action. His Welcome, Hera Pheri and Housefull franchises have been super hits. Now in 2024 Khiladi Kumar is all set to make a comeback to the comedy genre with Welcome to the Jungle and Housefull 5.

Welcome to the Jungle has a huge star cast and will be released during Christmas 2024. On the other hand, Sajid Nadiadwala and the team are planning to kick-start shooting for Housefull 5 in the second half of this year. The movie may or may not be released in 2024. Nevertheless, Housefull will be the first Indian franchise to have 5 releases ever.

Kartik Aaryan, Shraddha Kapoor to bring back horror comedies

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’s success established Kartik Aaryan as a budding superstar who can carry a movie on his shoulders. He will be returning with a sequel BB3 in 2024 hopefully as Rooh Baba, a character from BB2 that became hugely popular.

Shraddha Kapoor delivered her first solo hit with Stree years ago and now she is returning with its sequel. It was a horror-comedy movie in which both Shraddha and Rajkumarr Rao excelled and were highly appreciated. The songs from the movie were also big hits. A sequel to Stree has been highly awaited since then.

Other comedy movies are also in the works like Jolly LLB 3 which brings Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi together, Golmaal 5, Masti 4 with Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh, Entry 2, Hera Pheri 3, and more but their release dates are not yet confirmed.
