Poonam Singh

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar in her illustrious career which spanned over eight decades has crooned over 30,000 songs in at least 36 different languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tamil and Kannada.

The icon began singing at the age of 13 and recorded her first song in 1942. While her Hindi songs are well-known, many don’t know that she has also sung in Odia.

She had recorded two songs in Odia- "Sei Chuna Chuna Tara Phula Aaji" for the 1963 movie Suryamukhi and "Aaji Mun Shrabani Luhara Harini Jeun Rajani" for the 1967 movie Arundhati. Both the movie had won the National award for best Odia feature film in 1963 and 1967, respectively.

Both the songs remain all-time classics of Odia cinema. Sei Chuna Chuna Tara Phula Aaji is one of the most popular songs of the time, which won the hearts of the million of Odias.

A music lover shared a rare photo of Lata Manhgeshkar from "Sei Chuna Chuna Tara phule" in which Lata Mangeshkar can be seen standing with her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Lyricist Gurukrushna Goswami, Music Director Shantanu Mohapatra and Jatin Das.

Shantanu Mohapatra's composition "Aaji Mun Shrabani Luhara Harini Jeun Rajani" seems to get life with the voice of Lata Mangeskar. Many failed to recognise Lata Mangeskar in this song as her Odia accent was so correct and perfect that many thought it was sung by an Odia singer.

Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar passed away after a 28-day-long battle with Covid-19, pneumonia and related issues Mumbai at 8:12 a.m. on Sunday morning, leaving behind a legacy that will be hard to match.
