And now, the actress seems to be all set to step into the shoes of yesteryear actress Meena Kumari, the Tragedy Queen of the Indian Cine Industry. As per the latest buzz in the industry, Kriti will be playing the role of the late actress, who is considered one of the greatest actresses of Indian cinema.
As per the reports, ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra will be making his directorial debut with the untitled movie with Kriti as the female lead. The biopic of the late actress has been Manish’s long-cherished dream. With this flick, the fashion designer-turned-filmmaker aims to recreate the magic of the Tragedy Queen to honour the legacy. The film is touted to highlight the incredible journey of the iconic actress through the lens of the camera.
While fans seem to be excited, the son of late filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, Tajdar Amrohi, who also has involvement and gave consent for the biopic, reacted to Kriti Sanon playing the lead role. During an interview with ETimes, Amrohi said, “She is a good actress but she should avoid the role the keep her reputation intact.”
Further, Amrohi was quoted as saying that a big announcement about the biopic will be made soon. Well, time will reveal if Kriti will be seen as Meena Kumari or if any other actress will get the golden opportunity.
Notably, Meena Kumari actively worked in cinemas between 1939 and 1972. In a career spanning over 33 years, she has worked in over 90 movies. She died at the age of 38 years from liver cirrhosis, which had been associated with her alcoholism.
