‘Kingdom’ star Vijay Deverakonda finally breaks silence after ED Grilling

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda clarified his promotion of A23, a legal gaming app, after being summoned by the ED in Hyderabad over alleged betting apps. He submitted all necessary documents to prove his innocence.

Telugu heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda, known for his powerful on-screen presence and outspoken personality, recently found himself in the spotlight for reasons beyond the silver screen. Summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad, the actor appeared in connection with an ongoing investigation into the promotion of alleged betting apps.

However, Vijay came out with clarity and confidence, asserting he had done nothing illegal.

“Gaming, Not Betting,” Says Vijay

After hours of questioning at the ED office in Basheerbagh, Deverakonda addressed the media and clarified his role. “I was summoned because my name came up in a betting app case. But I only promoted A23, a legal gaming app — not a betting platform,” he said.

He emphasized the clear legal distinction between betting apps and skill-based gaming apps. “Gaming apps like A23 are registered, pay taxes, and follow government guidelines. They are legal in many Indian states,” he added.

Documents Submitted, Agreement Shared

Vijay further stated he had submitted all relevant financial documents to ED officials, including bank transaction details and his agreement with the app’s parent company. He also pointed out that the app isn’t even accessible in Telangana.

Others Under ED Lens

Deverakonda isn’t alone. Prominent actors like Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati, and Lakshmi Manchu have also been summoned as part of the investigation. Prakash Raj, who appeared on July 30, clarified he had backed out of such promotions in 2016 on ethical grounds.

The Bigger Picture

As the ED widens its net on celebrity endorsements of online platforms, Deverakonda's statement reinforces a growing need for clarity around the legality of digital gaming apps — and the responsibility that comes with celebrity influence.
