Jammu and Kashmir girl Sargam Koushal was crowned the Mrs World 2022 on Sunday at a gala event in Las Vegas. The beauty queen beat contestants from 63 countries to win the coveted crown and bring the title back to India after 21 long years.

The news was shared by the managing organisation of Mrs India pageant. Sharing the news, Mrs India pageant wrote, “The long wait is over, it’s after 21 years we have the CROWN back!”

An elated Sargam Koushal also took to her social media handle to share how happy she was after winning the title.
 “We've got the crown back after 21-22 years. I'm so excited. Love you India, love you world,” the newly-crowned Mrs World said.

For the final round, Koushal wore a pink centre slit glittery gown designed by Bhawna Rao and was mentored for the runway by pageant expert and model Alesia Raut. Koushal, wife of an Indian Navy officer, has made the whole country proud with her achievements. She herself holds a postgraduate degree in English literature and has previously worked as a teacher in Vizag. 

Notably, India had only one title once in 2001 and it was Dr Aditi Govitrikar who had bagged the coveted crown then. After today's event, 
Aditi congratulated Mrs Koushal on the feat and wrote, “Heartiest congratulations @sargam3 @mrsindiainc so happy to have been part of the journey.. it was time the crown came back after 21 years.”


 
The first beauty pageant for married women, Mrs World was conceived back in 1984 and traces its roots to the Mrs America pageant. Initially, the beauty contest was titled as Mrs Woman of the World. Later, it was renamed as Mrs World only in 1988. 
Over the years, Mrs World has seen entrants from over 80 countries with America having the most number of winners.
