Kareena Kapoor Khan's 'Big Story' behind short role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Director Kabir Khan reveals how Kareena Kapoor Khan joined Bajrangi Bhaijaan, marking the film's 10th anniversary. Salman Khan was always the first choice for the lead role, and a sequel is under consideration.

Kareena Kapoor

A decade ago, Bajrangi Bhaijaan won hearts across borders with its powerful story of love, humanity, and hope. As Salman Khan’s Pavan crossed barbed wires without a passport to return little Munni to her home in Pakistan, audiences witnessed one of his most heartfelt performances. Harshaali Malhotra shone as Munni, while Kareena Kapoor Khan, in the role of Rasika Pandey, left a lasting impression despite limited screen time. But how did Bebo come onboard for Kabir Khan’s directorial masterpiece?

Kareena’s Emotional Reaction to the Script

In a recent interview with The Indian Express marking the film’s 10th anniversary, director Kabir Khan revealed how Kareena became part of the cast. “I always knew Rasika was a small character, but she was the voice of reason in the film,” Kabir shared. “From day one, I wanted Kareena for it. When I met her, I told her upfront—it’s a small role, but please hear the full narration. By the end, Kareena was in tears and said she absolutely wanted to be a part of it.”

Salman Khan Was Always the First Choice

Interestingly, writer V. Vijayendra Prasad initially approached Aamir Khan for the project. However, Aamir recommended Salman Khan for the role. Kabir Khan was convinced Salman was perfect after seeing him connect deeply with Bajrangi’s values during their earlier collaboration on Ek Tha Tiger (2012).

Will There Be a Sequel?

As for Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2, Kabir Khan confirmed he and Salman are exploring the idea. But they’re in no rush, waiting for a story that inspires them as much as the original did.

A Legacy of Love

Ten years on, Bajrangi Bhaijaan remains a timeless tale, and fans can’t wait to see if the magic will return with a sequel.
