Rishab Shetty's Kantara emerged as a massive box office hit globally and became the second-highest-grossing Kannada movie. Apart from its commercial success, the movie resonated deeply with the audience. It was recently accorded with National Awards. While Kantara was recognised as the Best Popular Film, Rishab bagged the Best Actor award. Fans are well aware that Rishab is working on the prequel of Kantara. Now, Vijay Kiragandur shared major updates about the movie.

During the media interaction at the 70th National Film Awards event, Vijay revealed that around 30 per cent of the filming of Rishab Shetty's flick is completed. Talking about Kantara: Chapter 1, starring and directed by Rishab Shetty, Vijay said, We’ve completed about 30 per cent of the filming, and the next schedule is starting in October."
Further, talking about the release date, Vijay said, "Fans can expect the movie to hit theatres by August 2025."
Currently, the film is being shot in Kundapur and the story will delve deeper into the story of Kantara that amazed the audience worldwide. The prequel likely follows the lore of the Panchurli Deiva, which is set in the Kadamba era.
Recently, reports were abuzz that the makers have roped in Mollywood superstar Mohanlal. The Malayalam superstar will portray Rishab's father in the prequel.
The rumours were fuelled after Rishab and his wife met the legendary actor and shared the pictures on social media. Soon the pictures went viral and fans started speculations about his inclusion in Kantara: Chapter 1. However, the makers haven't yet clarified about it.
