Kalki 2898 AD sequel has remained one of the most anticipated flicks, with fans eagerly waiting for official updates on the movie. However, while the excitement was building, Vyjayanthi Movies shocked everyone with an announcement confirming the exit of its female lead, Deepika Padukone, from the upcoming film.

Official Word from Vyjayanthi Movies

On Thursday, Vyjayanthi Movies issued a formal statement on social media, stating: “This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.” (sic)

This announcement comes just a couple of months after Deepika opted out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, another big-ticket project starring Prabhas. Deepika Padukone has officially joined Atlee’s upcoming fantasy-action spectacle AA22×A6, starring alongside Allu Arjun. Deepika is set to play a fierce warrior queen in a parallel universe-  complete with specially designed weapons, CGI/VFX-enhanced action, and a bold, new avatar. The shoot is expected to span 100 days, with Deepika scheduled to begin filming in November 2025. The project is being produced by Sun Pictures, promises heavy visual effects, and aims for a Pan-India release in the latter half of 2027.
