Jr NTR’s Agent Vikram spin-off shelved following War 2 failure: Reports
The disappointing box office performance of War 2 has sent shockwaves through Yash Raj Films (YRF), forcing the studio to rethink its ambitious Spy Universe plans. The Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer, initially expected to be a pan-India blockbuster, opened decently but soon lost momentum, struggling to cross the Rs 300 crore mark worldwide.
Sources now suggest that YRF has shelved its plan for a standalone film focused on Jr NTR’s character, Agent Vikram.
A Bollywood Hungama report quoted a source saying, “YRF had ambitious plans to capitalise on the Pan India popularity of Jr NTR and make a spin-off to the character of Agent Vikram. The creative team was already developing a standalone film, but the failure of War 2 has halted the entire process."
Industry insiders reveal that Aditya Chopra has decided against moving forward with the Agent Vikram project, opting instead to rework the Spy Universe’s overall direction. The source added that Chopra communicated this decision directly to Jr NTR, who agreed and exited the project on friendly terms.
“Agent Vikram film is not a feasible move anymore, and Adi has conveyed the same to Jr NTR. The Man of Masses also agreed to Adi’s point of view and has parted ways with the banner on a very healthy note," the source explained.
The cancellation is particularly significant as the standalone Agent Vikram film had been one of the key conditions for Jr NTR signing on to War 2. Its shelving represents a major shift in YRF’s strategic plans.
Meanwhile, YRF is moving ahead with Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, scheduled for a Christmas 2025 release. With the Agent Vikram spin-off now off the table, the focus is on how Aditya Chopra will restructure the Spy Universe following this setback.
