Indian Idol 12 contestants have left their entire guest impressed with their strong rendering. And now, as the finale comes closer, fans are eager to know who will clinch the title this year. Over the years this music reality show of Sony has changed the perspective of people towards singing and introduced a new dynamism.

After Zee’s Sa Re Ga Ma became a big hit, most of the entertainment channels in India came out with their own music reality shows like Fame Gurukul, The Voice and so many. But not only did Indian Idol survive a tough competition from these shows, but it also emerged as one of the most loved and favoured shows on Indian television.

And one of the biggest reasons for its success is its approach. While the earlier music reality shows were more focused on following traditional norms of singing, Indian Idol accepted and adopted the changing times and made it essential for a singer to not only sing well but also perform well as an artist.

For winning the show, the judges made it criteria that not only do the singers have a good classical background but also they are versatile enough to do good justice to all types of songs including classical, semi-classical, folk, and western music.

And that is the reason even singers like Neha Kakkar, Salman Ali,  Sunny Hindustani, and now Shanmukha Priya, whose singing is entirely different from the traditional Bollywood’s playback singing, have been able to make a mark.

The earlier team comprised Sonu Nigam (Singer), Anu Malik (music composer), and Farah Khan (ace choreographer and film director), and these three judges ensured that the contestants fulfill all the three parameters of good singing, presentation, and understanding of songs.

Even today, the same format is followed. However, nowadays the focus is also on adding an entertainment quotient to boost TRP’s. Even then Indian Idol continues to be the most looked forward music reality show and that is why even a winner of other shows like Pawandeep Rajan, who earlier won The Voice, and Anjali Gaikwad, who won Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, came on the show as contestants.
